Abstract
This article considers the children’s cultural studies as an integral component of primary language education
focusing on the development of pupils’ intercultural competence. The authors claim that learning a foreign
language culture is closely related to the problem of learning to communicate. The article also highlights findings
on the relationship between language proficiency and culture for both native and foreign language pupils.
The aim of this work is to investigate theoretically and test practically the introduction of children's cultural
studies’ elements in education process of primary school, which forms the linguistic personality of the
pupil, who is capable and ready for intercultural communication at the most elementary level. The article reveals
new views on the relationship between language and culture, determines the role and place of cultural
studies as a component of the content of teaching foreign languages in a primary school. The research is
based on the works by well-known home and foreign linguists and methodologists studying the issues of intercultural
communication.
